Bharatiya Janshakti Party leader Uma Bharti said in Sagar on Saturday that her party would support the BJP in the Gujarat assembly elections “for the sake of Hindutwa and to defeat the Congress in that state”.
She however remained non-committal on the issue of her returning to the BJP.
In Bhopal, she said, “If the Congress forms the government in Gujarat, neither Ram would be saved not Roti. I have developed a feeling of revulsion towards the Congress ever since the central government filed the affidavit on the Ram Setu issue. We can emerge as a third force in Gujarat but we should not strengthen the Congress,” Bharti said.
She clarified that she was not going to Gujarat to join the BJP, as speculated in a section of media, but to hold consultations with party candidates in that state. She said her party candidates are not pleased with her plan to withdraw them from the elections in Gujarat.
Asked if withdrawing the candidates did not amount to joining the BJP, she said the two issues should not be linked and that she had received no proposal from the BJP to return to the party.
