Uma Bharti’s candidature in the UP polls is likely to be announced on Sunday, with the BJP high command deciding to field her from Babina, sources said. A decision on giving a ticket to her was kept pending because of opposition from some leaders.
With the BJP looking for a strong OBC face, Bharti is willing to contest from any constituency though Bundelkhand was considered her choice.
A former CM of Madhya Pradesh and an Hindutva face, Bharti belongs to the Lodh community. The BJP has not had a strong Lodh face since Kalyan Singh rebelled and left the party.
