Uma to retain her Assembly seat

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti will not quit her Assembly seat, which she won as a BJP candidate in the last state elections, in the wake of launching her own party, her aide said on Tuesday.

"She was designated as an independent MLA after her expulsion from the BJP. She does not need to quit that position," he told a news agency, dismissing reports in a section of the media that Bharti was planning to step down as MLA.

On April 30, Bharti launched her own Bharatiya Janshakti Party and declared herself its president.
