"We expect the UN to take up this issue seriously to warn the Sri Lankan Government to stop the inhuman, unlawful war against innocent minority civilian victims in Sri Lanka and to pronounce financial sanctions against them if they do not stop it immediately", ECFoHR Co-ordinator R Christopher Rajkumar told reporters in Chennai.

"We also demand that the UN send an independent and international 'fact finding' team to visit the affected areas to assess the real damage", he added.

He also urged the UN to play a 'peace-building' role by initiating peace talks to grant political freedom to Sri Lankan Tamil minorities and ensure their freedom.

"Our organisation also urges the State and Central governments to immediately prevail upon the Sri Lankan Government to implement a ceasefire and bring about a permanent political solution", he added.
