To ensure smooth flow of traffic, the Gurgaon traffic police have asked civic agencies to construct three underpasses in jam-prone areas such as Signature Towers, Iffco Chowk and Rajiv Chowk.
The traffic police claimed to have raised the issue of constructing the underpass, roads and slip roads at these locations with the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) and Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG).
"We've asked Huda and MCG to construct the underpass and to remove faulty structures and unused drain covers from these areas for the smooth flow of traffic," said Bharti Arora, DCP (traffic).
The first underpass is proposed to be constructed between Huda City Centre and Maharana Pratap Chowk at Signature Tower, while the
second underpass at Iffco Chowk will be constructed between MG Road and Sukhrali.
The third underpass is proposed to be built between Sohna Road to Old Railway Road at Rajeev Chowk.
Passing through these busy points often proves to be a Herculean task for commuters.
The waiting time at these intersections is at least 15-20 minutes and goes up to 25-30 minutes during the peak hours. "Heavy volume of traffic is another major cause of jams. But this can be easily managed through the slip roads," the traffic police claimed.
