Other inmates of the jail, who had come to attend the hearing, too corroborated the allegations before mediapersons.

The injured undertrial was provided treatment at the hospital and was sent to the jail later. Additional DG, Law and order Padman Singh, however, issued an order to probe the role of the policemen on escort duty referring it a laxity on their part. Singh said negligent attitude of the cops during duty provided chance to the undertrial and he managed to carry the shaving blade with him.

It was around 12 pm when undertrial Salauddin was being escorted by two policemen to the ACJM court. While he was going upstairs to the court room in the multi-storeyed court building, Salauddin suddenly picked out a blade and made cuts on his head and the stomach.

The policemen escorting him were not ready for the shocking surprise, but they pounced upon the undertrial and snatched the blade from him. Bleeding profusely from the wounded parts Salauddin was rushed to the nearby Balrampur Hospital.

When inquired by the HT Lucknow Live Salauddin showed marks on his thigh and back and allegedly left following brutal assault by the jail wardens and other officials.

Salauddin changed his stance soon after reaching the jail in the evening. He changed his statement in the jail stating that the court lock-up cops asked for money before allowing his relatives to meet him.
