Unified command reviews security situation in Assam

With barely a week to go before the safe passage to ULFA offer begins in Assam, the government on Friday reviewed the law and order situation under the unified command structure.

The unified command, chaired by S Kaliban, chief secretary, Assam met to review the counter insurgency operations and the overall security scenario in the state.

During the meeting, the law and order situation in Karbi Anglong district was discussed along with the enforcement of the ceasefire agreements with UPDS, DHD and NDFB.

The unified command also discussed the offer of safe passage to ULFA cadres during the ensuing Magh Bihu festival.

It was decided that ground rules for all militant outfits under ceasefire would continue to be strictly enforced, militants would be prohibited from moving outside their designated camps with arms and extortion by militant outfits would be stopped.

The meeting was attended by Lt General HS Lidder GoC 4 corps, DN Dutta, DGP, Assam, SC Sharma, IGP, CRPF and ML Choudhury, IG SSB.
