With 61,000 students last year, the Institute of Distance Education has witnessed an increase in enrollments — an increase of about 5,000 every year since 2002. It was in 1971-72 that the University of Mumbai established the Directorate of Correspondence Courses.

In 1993, the Directorate of Distance Education was upgraded to ‘Institute of Distance Education’, acquiring the status of a ‘University Institution’. Only Indian citizens in India are eligible for Admission.

Courses

With 50 colleges in the city conducting guidance lectures for distance education, IDE offers BA and B.Com programmes along with post-graduate programmes. For science students, it offers B.Sc in Information Technology and B.Sc in

Computer Science.

Highlights

Starting this year, IDE will hand out CDs apart from hard copies of subject notes for technical and traditional courses.

July to September; based on Class 12 scores.
