UP Houses adjourn after obit references

UP Govt also announced setting up of a music academy at a cost of Rs one crore in Bismillah Khan's memory.

Both Houses of Uttar Pradesh legislature were adjourned after paying tributes to departed sitting and former members, and to shehnai maestro Ustad Bismillah Khan on the first day of the monsoon session on Monday.

The Assembly remembered two sitting members, Haji Mushtaq Solanki (Samajwadi Party) and Ram Swaroop Singh, (CPI-M) who had died recently.

Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, Leader of the Opposition Lalji Tandon, Congress Legislature Party leader Pramod Tewari and Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Kokab Hameed recalled the contribution of the two leaders.

Tewari urged the Chief Minister to set up a school in memory of Ram Swaroop in his constituency of Bijnore.

The House also paid homage to Bismillah Khan who passed away in Varanasi early on Monday and the government announced setting up of a music academy at a cost of Rs one crore in his memory.

Members of the Uttar Pradesh Council recalled his contribution to Indian classical music.

A two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect for the departed souls in both Houses.
