UP panchayat bans jeans, mobiles for girls

A community panchayat has passed a diktat banning supply and consumption of liquor and warned of hefty fines for offenders, saying it has a "bad" effect on society.

A community panchayat has passed a diktat banning supply and consumption of liquor and warned of hefty fines for offenders, saying it has a "bad" effect on society.

A panchayat of Gujjar community held at Katya village under Jansath police station in the district, on Saturday decided to impose a fine of Rs 10,000 on those who are found supplying liquor and a fine of Rs 5,000 on those who are found drinking, community panchayat sources said.

A community panchayat had on Saturday banned jeans and mobiles for unmarried girls, claiming that they have a "bad" effect on them at Jadwad village in the district.
