THE ALL-INDIA Trade Union Congress criticised the Central Government led by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) for its anti-labour policies. Addressing a meeting held here on Sunday, the AITUC leaders said that the present government was following its predecessor, National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

The AITUC leaders decided to take part in the proposed nation-wide strike on December 14 to oppose the Centre’s anti-labour policies.
They said during the strike all the establishments of the city would remain close. A decision to send notice about the strike to all industrial establishments was taken at the meeting, and it was decided that the notice would be sent on November 29.
The trade union leaders said that the working class all over the country was suffering because of misuse of existing labours laws by the industrialists.
They expressed concern over the rise in prices of essential commodities, which affected the poor.
The multinational companies were being allowed to run their business at the cost of living of the poor, they added.
Though many schemes were being carried out for the people livingt below the poverty line, right people were not getting the benefits of those schemes, they said.

{{/usCountry}}Regarding city industrial establishment, they said that LML was closed, the British India Company Limited was heading for closure and all the five mills of the NTC had been closed.
The industrial city’s industry was declining, they added and alleged that efforts were initiated to save city’s industrial establishments.
