The Bharatiya Janata Party leader's attack came in response to the state Congress unit's promise to create a million jobs in Gujarat if voted to power in elections due later this year.

"In its manifesto in 2009, the Congress party had promised a job to one person of every family in the country, but nothing happened. Now they are promising a million jobs. What about the promises made earlier?" Modi said.

Addressing a youth convention at Patan district in north Gujarat, he said a central government survey had found that Gujarat created the highest number of jobs among all the states in the country.

"We are committed to industrial development in the state, which will create employment opportunities for youngsters."

Modi added that 350,000 people had got direct jobs in Gujarat in the last decade due to the state government's efforts.

He said his government would create 100,000 more jobs in the next two years.
