The turnaround came about at Monday’s board meeting of the Parishad, which is understood to have paved way for acquisition of the land by the private developer, despite stiff opposition to the move by its employees union. None of the board members, however, were willing to talk to mediapersons about the outcome of the meeting. “I won’t be able to tell you anything today. Come and meet me tomorrow,” was all Housing Commissioner MA Khan had to say when contacted by the Hindustan Times. As a sop to the agitating employees, the Board gave its nod to the proposal to give dearness allowance to its employees at par with those of the State Government.

The UPAVP had been at loggerheads with the private developer as the latter’s project on 1765 acres clashed with its own proposed housing venture on the Sultanpur Road. Since the State Government had formulated a policy for encouraging private participation in the housing sector, the land dispute between the UPAVP and the private developer had landed it in a piquant situation.
