AVOCATE GENERAL SMA Kazmi said here on Wednesday that we must always work for upholding the dignity of the judiciary as it was one of the pillars of democracy. If the public lost faith in the judiciary, the democracy would collapse.
Kazmi was addressing a programme organised by the Bar Association of Board of Revenue here on Wednesday to felicitate him.
Lauding the legal profession, Kazmi said that this was a multi-dimensional profession. He expressed gratitude to his father, who despite being a professor, had taken the decision to make his son a lawyer.
Coming down on those lawyers who looked down upon their profession, Kazmi said that a lawyer should be proud of his profession as all high departments depended on the advice of lawyers. Besides, the lawyers were maximum tax payers.
Narrating the qualities of lawyers, Kazmi said that while dealing with his client, a lawyer had to behave like a salesman, read the files like a scholar, administer his office like an administrator, give the statement before the court like a statesman and accept the result of his case like a sportsman.
Focussing on the much talked about problem of delay in filing of replies (counter affidavits) on behalf of the state, Kazmi said that after holding a meeting with top officials of the state, a scheme had been formulated to solve this problem.

He also assured the office-bearers of the Bar Association of Board of Revenue that their problems would be solved at the earliest.
Earlier, welcoming Kazmi, president of the Bar Association of Board of Revenue HN Sharma termed Kazmi as the personification of humility and simplicity. Sharma said that the post of Advocate-General was only the beginning and Kazmi had to go far ahead.
While presiding over the programme, a judicial member of Board of Revenue SN Pandey, IAS, said that a man was known by his virtues and Kazmi was a man of many virtues and qualities.
Conducting the programme, secretary of the Association Bal Krishna Pandey demanded that State Service Tribunal and a branch of State Human Rights Commission should be set up in Allahabad.
Others who addressed the programme included former joint secretary of High Court Bar Association (HCBA) Prabha Shankar Mishra, vice-president of HCBA Avnindra Kumar Mishra and others.Those present on this occasion included advocates Daya Shankar Mani Tripathi, Manoj Srivastava, Rajesh Khare, Suman Jaiswal and others.
