Upper palaeolithic culture an important phase

ON THE second day of the seminar on ‘upper palaeolithic culture of India’ organised at Allahabad Museum , several eminent scholars presented their research papers on Saturday.

In the 3rd session, Prof DP Sharma highlighted the upper palaeolithic culture through cup-marks in the rock-art of Central India.

Prof VC Srivastava focussed on upper palaeolithic culture of Afghanistan. He mentioned in his reserach paper that no new excavation had been done for the last 25 years. “Now we have to think about the preservation of Afghanistan’s culture”, he said. Prof DP Tiwari and Bishnupuria also offered a new concept about the subject.

Prof UC Chattopadhyaya expressed his views on ‘Macrofaunal Fossil Evidence: Towards Reconstructing the paleo-environmental condition and palaeosubstance choices during the upper palaeolithic period in north central India.

Prof VD Mishra enlightened through his paper that the archaeological investigation conducted in Belan and Son Valleys had demonstrated the stratigraphic position of the upper palaeolithic culture of the north-central Vindhya.

Prof JN Pal said that upper palaeolithic culture, associated with modern human species, signified a very important phase in the development of human cultures.

Prof VH Sonawane and Dr Suniti Pandey also presented their paper on aesthetics. Chairman of the museum Prof RK Varma delivered the valedictory address.

Dr SK Sharma, director welcomed the delegates and scholars. Dr Sunil Gupta co-ordinated the seminar.
