TAKING NOTE of the declining number of students and performances of some of its study centres, Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University (UPRTOU) on Saturday suspended 23 study centres and issued warnings to 21 others across the state.

The decision was taken after reviewing the performance of all its study centres across the state immediately after completion of the admission process of the current academic session.
It is worth mentioning that UPRTOU authorities had cautioned the study centres about declining strength of students enrolled with them and had also directed them to work on their weaknesses to attract more students.
UPRTOU Vice-Chancellor Prof KNS Yadava said that after reviewing the situation of study centres, 23 study centres were suspended while warning was given to 21 study centres across the state.
The students enrolled with the suspended centres would be attached with the study centres located in the respective district.
Prof Yadava said that UPRTOU provided full support to its study centres by advertising through posters, banners, by organising workshops, seminars and also through awareness programmes but some of the centres failed to take full advantage of the support and proved their inefficiency in providing proper guidance and counselling to the students.
The failure of these study centres led to decline in the strength of students and thus they were suspended with immediate effect, he added.

{{/usCountry}}The study centres suspended by the authorities include the study centres located in Deoria, Ghosi, Kannauj, Allahabad, Pilibhit, Bagpat, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Rae Bareli and Lucknow districts. The centres have been informed about the suspension and the students have been attached to the nearest centres, said Prof Yadava.
Prof Yadava said, "The varsity has limited resources and the income generated by the study centres is much less than the expenditure at the centres. The new centres established from this year have been authorised only after an agreement to increase the strength from next year and the centre will be suspended if it fails to do so."
Prof Yadava anticipated that the strength of UPRTOU will cross the one lakh mark by next year and outnumber Indira Gandhi National Open University in the coming years.
"UPRTOU stresses upon quality of education and sincere and persistent efforts by local centres, study centres, counsellors and students to meet the target", added Prof Yadava.
