THE UP State Engineering Entrance (UPSEE) exam counselling for admitting students to various engineering and management colleges affiliated to the UP Technical University (UPTU) started off on a bumpy note, the entire counselling process being thoroughly mismanaged. On Monday, computers in all nine counselling centers across the State developed a snag leading to a two-hour delay in the process. At the Institute of Engineering and Technology, IET, Lucknow campus, chaos reigned.

Guardians called for counselling had to brave the intense heat in the absence of even proper seating arrangement and later in the day it was rains that lashed the State capital that left them miserable. This time there were no close-circuit TVs outside the counselling hall to help those waiting outside the counselling room keep track of how many seats were vacant and how many were filled.

Guardians complained that feelers were given to them to grease the palm of the employees if they wanted the certificates issued. “We are being asked to bribe our way to the certificates. At times we are being asked to give Rs 70 to get a certificate made that our ward has not taken admission anywhere else already.

At other places, medical certificates is being issued. Apart from registration fees of Rs 5,000 we are being asked to pay Rs 500 more in the name of counselling fees,” charged Sushil Kumar who had come to the counselling venue with his ward.
