At a meeting presided over its MD Deepak Trivedi today, the corporation decided to immediately lodge an FIR against anyone found travelling without a valid ticket. The UPSRCT officers along with district and police administration will conduct special checking of buses once a week. At the same, the bus staff will be provided adequate security.

It was also decided to deploy a police picket at each of the sensitive spots identified between KKC and Alambagh police station, KKC and Hazratganj, KKC and Telibagh, Engineering College & Munshi Pulia, Munshi Pulia and Lekhraj and between Jail Road & Ashiyana.

In another significant decision, the UPSRTC decided to act under the Defence of Public Properties Act against those Students leaders or other union leaders in whose favour slogans were written on buses. One is liable to a punishment of six months’ imprisonment and Rs 10,000 fine under the Act.

THE TRANSPORT Department will soon invite tenders from private firms willing to manufacture and sell speed governors in the State.

The State government has asked the Transport Department to float the tenders within 15 days. Additional Transport Commissioner (Enforcement) Rameshwar Dayal said that the tender papers had been prepared following the government directives.

As per a decision taken by the State Cabinet sometime back, the use of speed governors would be made compulsory for heavy commercial vehicles to cap their maximum speed at 60 kmph. The government is expected to issue a notification to this effect very soon. Gradually, the use of speed governors would be made mandatory for all the passenger vehicles too.
