This figure has started hurting the UPTU with which these engineering colleges are affiliated. The varsity think-tank feels non-participation in extra curricular activities is keeping students closeted in their own world.

Efforts will now be made to make the students socialise and participate in various events.

Vice-Chancellor DS Chauhan said efforts were needed to draw students out of their shell. Hostel wardens will be encouraged to carry out activities that will help students overcome negative feelings and imbibe positive energy.

He said, “Hostellers are cut off from their families. Thus, it is imperative that hostels undertake such extra curricular programmes that will keep students busy when they are free from study.”

Chauhan said, “A hostel warden has a very important role to play. Everyday, he should spend some time with the students and get them to share their feelings with him.

This will help him understand students’ problems better. The varsity is in favour of setting up a body that will take up activities to help students remove negative feelings from their minds.”
