VICE –CHANCELLOR of Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU), Dr Durg Singh Chauhan, has taken a serious view of the fact that students poor at studies get good marks in the internal assessment in different courses run by the university.

In a letter issued to the head of each technical institution, the VC said that it had been observed that students whose performance in the final examinations had been very poor received good marks in internal assessment.

He warned the institutional heads against giving good marks to undeserving candidates and said if the practice continued, the university may think of abolishing the system of internal assessment altogether.

He said it seemed that the internal assessment marks were being given under pressure. But in the interest of the high academic standards of the university and the students, such pressures should be ignored. He said in case the practice of awarding good marks to the weak students was not checked, the university would only count the marks awarded in the written examination for fixing the division or grades of the students.
