Noted Urdu poet Mirza Mohd Zafar Hayat Lucknovi died in Lucknow following a heart attack.

Noted Urdu poet Mirza Mohd Zafar Hayat Lucknovi died in Lucknow on Tuesday following a heart attack, his family said on Thursday.

He was 76.

Hayat is survived by five daughters and five sons.

Son of famous Urdu poet Aziz Lucknovi, Hayat was a distinguished poet and his four collections Hisar-e-aab, Nadi-ke-par ka manzar, Dariya Rawan Rahe and Wasila drew widespread acclaim.

He received Mir Taqi Mir award in 1997, Delhi Urdu Academy award in 1999 and Bihar Urdu Academy Award in 1999.
