US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South Asian Affairs, Donald Camp, arrives on a two-day official visit here on Wednesday in an attempt to restore democracy in the Himalayan Kingdom and establish peace among the political parties and the monarchy.
"Mr Camp will be here for two days to convey the message on US policy reflected in President George W Bush's recent statement on Nepal, which has stressed reconciliation between the King and political parties for peace," The Himalayan Times quoted Robert Hugins, the spokesperson of the US embassy, as saying.
President Bush during his visit to India last week urged King Gyanendra to reach to the political parties and restore democracy in the Kingdom.
Though there were "several reasons" behind Mr Camp's visit, he will be here chiefly to consult with US officials and other concerned persons to have a better understanding of the current developments in Nepal, Mr Hugins said.
US has suspended military assistance to Nepal after the take over by King Gyanendra in February last year.
Hugins reiterated that his country continues to have the "same policy."
