The Bush Administration, in spite of all its talk of exhausting diplomatic solution, is feverishly planning for a military attack against Iran including the possible use of bunker busting nuclear weapons, a media report claimed.
The President, George W Bush and some others in the White House have come to see the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as a potential Adolf Hitler. "That's the name they're using," the report in the latest issue of The New Yorker said quoting a former intelligence official.
Citing an unnamed Pentagon advisor, the report makes the point that the White House has come to the conclusion that the only way to solve the problem in Iran is change the power structure in that country "and that means war".
According to a former defence official, cited in the report, a sustained bombing campaign in Iran against a list of hundreds of identified targets will humiliate the religious leadership leading to a public revolt.
"The Bush Administration, while publicly advocating diplomacy in order to stop Iran from pursuing a nuclear weapon, has increased clandestine activities inside Iran and intensified planning for a possible major air attack," the report by investigative journalist Seymour Hersh said.
