Formula 1's governing body, the FIA, announced that it would restrict the use of Drag Reduction Systems (DRS) on F1 cars from the 2013 season.

Introduced in 2011, the system allows a driver within one second behind another to reduce the angle of his car's rear wing while the leading driver is not allowed to do so.

Record number of overtaking maneuvers were produced as a result but the FIA has decided to not let teams use it at will during practice and qualifying from next year. Only within specified areas or zones on the circuits.
