Uttaranchal sets up task forces to tackle bird flu

The Forest and Animal Husbandry departments are maintaining a strict vigil on migratory birds.

Uttaranchal has been put on high alert and task forces have been set up across the state so as to deal with any outbreak of the deadly influenza.

No cases have been reported so far in the state.

"The state machinery has been put on a high alert to deal with any situation. State and district level special task forces have been constituted and these have already become functional," Principal Secretary SK Das said.

Das said the Forest and Animal Husbandry departments were maintaining a strict vigil on migratory birds.

The Animal Husbandry department has been instructed to deploy veterinary doctors at all check points established on state borders to prevent the entry of infected poultry.
