ON THE occasion of Maharishi Dadhichi’s birth anniversary today, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government launched an ambitious ‘Utthan Abhiyan’ for challenged persons.
Announcing the launch of the Abhiyan at a press conference here today, Social Justice Minister Rampal Singh said under the campaign, survey of challenged persons will be updated and benefit of welfare schemes being carried out for challenged persons will be ensured to them.
As of now, the number of challenged persons in Madhya Pradesh is 12 lakh. The responsibility for teaching, training, employment, self-employment, treatment, rehabilitation and creation of congenial atmosphere for challenged persons to live has been assigned to 13 different departments under the campaign.
Special schools will also be opened for them with the help of NGOs under the campaign. A special recruitment drive for the challenged persons has already been undertaken.
Divisional offices will also be set up in all seven divisional headquarters of the State for consistent monitoring of ‘Utthan Abhiyan’ in Madhya Pradesh and three awards - gold, silver and bronze medals- will be given to district collectors for excellent work under the campaign on World Disabled Day on December 3.
The Minister further announced the constitution of a State-level committee to apprise the Government on problems of old persons. The committee comprising old persons from different fields will be formed soon.

{{/usCountry}}The suggestions received from the committee will be incorporated in the policy being framed for the old to ensure a dignified life for them. A convention of old persons will also be held to elicit views of the old on what needed to be done for their proper care, he said.
