THE MAKHANLAL Chaturvedi University of Journalism & Communication convened a meeting of vice-chancellors and heads and faculty of departments of journalism and mass communication of universities of Madhya Pradesh here today. The meeting was presided over by Rani Durgawati University (Jabalpur) Vice-Chancellor Dr S M Paul Khurana.
Inaugurating the meeting, Makhanlal Chaturvedi University of Journalism Vice-Chancellor Achyutanand Mishra traced the birth, growth and present status of media-related courses in India and said it was time to have an intensive look at some of the key areas of media-related courses in India and training so as to achieve excellence in these areas.
He said the areas which needed a relook and re-orientation were uniformity in syllabi and nomenclature of degrees in such courses, inter-university linkages’ and exchange of resources in terms of faculty, reference books and materials, academic convergence, video-conferencing, on-line journalism, multi-media courses, video-editing, web site development, interface between universities, media, media-related organisations and industry.
In his presidential address, Dr S M Paul Khurana called for promoting on-line journalism and website journalism, tele- and videoconferencing, strengthening of reference libraries and research in media-related areas. “Reaching the unreached” was a colossal job, he remarked.
He expressed confidence that such intensive deliberations would bring the heads together resulting in action plan for implementing various ideas and suggestions put forth.

{{/usCountry}}Commissioner, Public Relations, Manoj Shrivastava, while lauding the convening of such a dialogue, called for an integrated approach in media education and training in order to make it an effective tool for information dissemination and creating public awareness.
In this context, he referred to the proposed Communication Policy and sought views of those participating in the meeting, which, he said would certainly be useful in finalising the policy.
Following the deliberations, a coordination committee headed by Achyutanand Mishra with heads of departments of journalism and mass communication in universities in MP was formed to take stock of all major aspects discussed in the meeting and come out with its specific recommendations.
