Rajasthan Government announced its decision to raise the ceiling on labourers to be provided employment for famine relief work from Rs 22 lakhs to Rs 35 lakhs from May 16.

"A decision to raise the number of labourers on relief works was taken at a high level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot here yesterday," an official release said.

The ceiling of 35 lakh labourers on relief works is the largest ever as the desert state is facing severe drought conditions for the fourth consecutive year, the release said.

The Government has already announced providing employment on relief works to the labourers in a block of 15 days in a month from tomorrow. Earlier, each labourer used to get employment for 10 days in a month.

The State Government also sanctioned Rs 425.22 crores for relief works for the next two months. Of this Rs 268 crores have been earmarked for labour and material on relief works, Rs 104 crores for cattle conservation, Rs 30 crores for supplimentary diet, Rs 15 crores for transportation of drinking water, Rs 5 crores for gratuitous relief and Rs 2 crore for medicines, the release added.
