MDMK was allotted 35 seats by Jayalalithaa in the 2006 assembly polls and had won just six of them. More trouble for him was that three of his MLAs defected to M Karunanidhi's DMK, which considerably reduced his bargaining strength.

After keeping him hanging for over a month, the AIADMK supremo had first closed a deal with actor Vijayakanth-led DMDK and gave him 41 seats, making him the biggest ally in the 14-party rainbow front. The Left parties, which had quit the DMK formation to side with the AIADMK, were allotted 22 seats.

Upset with the offer of just 10 seats, Vaiko though would want to continue with the AIADMK, but the cadres are extremely angry over the 'indifferent' attitude of Jayalalithaa.

Senior MDMK leaders are set to meet on Saturday to decide on the future course of action.
