A Calendar of holidays or of exams is passe. The calendar of protests has arrived in Kashmir.
On Sunday, the Coordination Committee a conglomerate of separatist groups, traders, lawyers, transporters and members of civil society that is leading the Valley stir – announced its calendar of protests for the next one month. Starting from Monday, it lists protests and strike programmes till October 6.
“We issued this calendar in view of Ramzan, during which people should get some relief. We want to ensure there is minimum disturbance during the fasting month. Besides, students have to appear for various exams,” said Ghulam Mohammad Hubbi, a member of the Committee.
Announcing the calendar, Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani asked the people to be prepared for the October 6 march, but to desist from raising provocative slogans.
Asked if this would be a permanent feature, Hubbi said the Committee would come out with a new strategy on October 6.
