LUCKNOW UNIVERSITY has asked several student leaders, who had defaced the campus by putting up posters, banners and painting the walls, by asking them to pay Rs 25,000 each. Proctor AN Singh told HT Lucknow Live, these students have been asked to deposit the fine at the Cashier’s Office failing which, disciplinary action would be initiated against them.

They have been given a week’s time to do so else, they may be barred from contesting the students union poll. Also, the district administration will thereafter, recover the fined money from these student leaders.
LUSU general secretary Vinod Kr Tripathi is also on the list of defaulters. Other student leaders ‘listed’ include Vijay Kumar Singh Tintu, Pawan Mishra, Pawan Singh, Ashish Singh, Girish Mishra, Tarun Chand Patel and Harendra Bahadur.
These student leaders, however, say they have not received any directive from the LU yet. They also deny defacing the campus and say, it’s been done by their rivals to defame them! However, the varsity administration is not ready to buy the argument.
At a time when the JM Lyngdoh Committee has recommended various reforms in the students union elections, this action by the varsity administration only shows its resolve to keep the student leaders in check.
