ONCE AGAIN the LU V-C is issuing bold statements against student and employees’ stir, but not following them up with a matching action.
This has landed the varsity in a complex situation—academic session has gone haywire and peace taken the backseat.
LU V-C RP Singh describes the prevailing situation as “decidedly grave” and has somewhat appealed the student leaders not to disrupt the teaching work. In the name of action, LU has dubbed employees strike illegal and stated that the principle of “no work no pay” shall be used against the strikers.
The V-C has urged both student leaders and employees not to disturb varsity’s academic work and routine functioning. In an official communiqué, the V-C said that it was the peak admission time and classes for second year UG and PG courses have begun. He said the student leaders and employees should not disrupt teaching and academic work and stick to the code of conduct. He cautioned those who will indulge in disturbing peace in the normal functioning of LU.
“Rowdyism and vandalism will not be allowed on the campus. Leaders of the employees’ union are warned not to force the closure of the department and offices. They are not authorised to interfere with the teaching activities of the varsity nor are they suppose to enter academic areas. The employees are expected to be dutiful and should maintain peace. Employees must resume their duties immediately for the smooth and efficient functioning of the varsity,” the press release reads.

They say that the V-C is bent on fighting a pitched battle. “He is compiling all facts and figures to highlight various anomalies prevailing on the campus. This time the V-C means business and he is not going to buckle under pressure. He will apprise about the prevailing lawlessness to the Chancellor-Governor TV Rajeswar. He is not going to relent this time,” said a close aide of the V-C.
The V-C finally accepted that the financial situation too is grave. LU V-C stated that if annual fees and admission fees are not collected and deposited, it would not be possible to release the salaries of teaching and non-teaching staff from July 2006 onwards. Needless to mention that the LU is under acute financial crunch after the state government refused to increase its annual grant almost a decade back.
