Varsity students gherao dean on seat issue

THE ALLAHABAD University (AU) students on Wednesday gheraoed Dean Students Welfare (DSW) Prof Jagdamba Singh. They were protesting against the reduction in seats, hike in fees, teachers holding more then post of profit and to restore the rule followed in admission against Urdu, Arabic and Persian quota.

They were protesting against the reduction in seats, hike in fees, teachers holding more then post of profit and to restore the rule followed in admission against Urdu, Arabic and Persian quota.

Student leader Abhishek Shukla, Ziya Qonain Rizvi, Awinash Singh led the agitating students. AU Chief Proctor Prof Jatashankar Tripathi was also present on the occasion.

Addressing the students, Shukla said that the numbers of students, passing the intermediate results have increased substantially, but the AU administration has reduced the seats. He said the career of students would be ruined if they did not get admission due to inadequate seats.

Vikas Tripathi and Harishchandra Patel demanded central fee structure in the varsity.

Student leader Rizvi criticised the system adopted in the admissions under Urdu, Persian and Arabic quota. He demanded the authorities to restore the old rule for admission under the Urdu, Arabic and Persian quota.

Lala Ram Saroj and Awinash Singh expressed resentment over mathematics, economics and statistics being declared mandatory in graduation if opting for economics as additional subject in AU.

Those present on the occasion were Ajit Bhaskar, Ranjeet Pandey, Mohd Hasnain, Sanjay Sharma, Neeraj Singh, Manoj Singh, Chandrika Patel, Aditya Vikram, Saurabh Pandey and Faiyazul Haq among others.

ADC Notice: Principal Dr Santosh Kumar informed the teachers of Kydganj and Beniganj campus that they should remain present at the Kydganj campus at 7.15 am on June 1, 2 and 3 for successfully conducting the law examination 2006 of AU.

The teachers should get the duty slip issued from the office.
