It’s the time for global telecom majors to provide highly secured network connections from India to multinational companies, who have their offices in India, as well as Indian companies having global offices.
After British Telecom, AT&T and SingTel, US telecom giant Verizon has now firmed up plans to introduce IP-VPN network in the country for their enterprise customers.
Verizon is planning for a major branding exercise to start these services once it gets the necessary regulatory approvals.
It has floated a 74:26 joint venture with Videocon Industries and has a Letter of Intent (LoI) from the Department of Telecom to start NLD/ILD services.
"We are planning for substantial investments to provide better infrastructure facilities. We have the license and with that we are planning to leverage our existing presence to offer advanced communications services here," Blair Crump, Group President (international and premier accounts), Verizone Business told HT. He added that the company is targeting Indian BPOs for this kind of services.
Verizon plans to offer international private-leased circuits with multi protocol label switching (MPLS) and Internet protocol services. Companies that need to speed up their network and manage Internet traffic over their networks, across different countries and multiple locations use the MPLS technology.

{{/usCountry}}The IP and data network capabilities are planned for launch in Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad in 2008.
Currently, Verizon has Internet service provider license in India and has various local IP hubs. It provides services to its multinational customers in the Indian operations through partnerships with several licensed carriers in the country.
"We are planning for an India hub from where we will have access to the entire Asia Pacific, South East and Far East," Crump said. In IP VPN, Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) is driving the growth and analyst firm Frost and Sullivan estimates that the IP VPN market to grow at a Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 30.9 per cent till 2011. It expects the Indian VPN service market to grow to $764.7 million in 2011.
Global telecom operators are eying India as an operational hub for their network services.
