Verve and vigour mark Easter celebrations

EASTER, THE festival commemorating the resurrection of Christ, was celebrated in the churches here today. After the midnight mass and morning prayers, it was time to exchange greetings, hold family gathering, sports and the traditional egg hunt.

EASTER, THE festival commemorating the resurrection of Christ, was celebrated in the churches here today. After the midnight mass and morning prayers, it was time to exchange greetings, hold family gathering, sports and the traditional egg hunt.

After the ceremonies of the Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, a majority of churches began their ceremonies at 7.30 pm and wound up by 9.30 pm. The candlelight ceremonies, which included the blessing of the Pascal candle, blessing of fire and holy water was held with devotion. The church organ, which in the Lenten season was lull, came alive with angelic choirs on Easter night.

Easter is the time of the year that heralds spring and the blossoming of nature when people look forward to the warmth of the coming summer and the cycle of rebirth. The arrival of spring, in fact, was celebrated all over the world long before the religious meaning became widely associated with Easter.
