The Janata Dal (S) city unit president Vidya Chavan today resigned from the party after she was denied ticket from the high profile North Mumbai constituency and would now contest the polls as an independent candidate against Union Petroleum Minister and BJP nominee Ram Naik and Congress candidate Govinda.

"I have sent the resignation to the party president H D Deve Gowda," Chavan told reporters here.
She said she would file her nomination from North Mumbai constituency on April 5 as party workers want her to contest the elections.
