Suspected Garo militants shot at and injured a village head in Meghalaya's West Garo Hills district, the police said today.

A group of Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) militants entered the house of Nokma (traditional village head) Gretason Marak late last night and shot at him, the police said.

Marak, Nokma of Geldupara village in Garobada police outpost, was rushed to a hospital and police said the bullets have been removed from his body.
He was served an extortion demand of Rs 7 lakh and was asked by GNLA to pay the amount by August 1, the police said.
