STUDENTS OF Atarra Degree College in Banda district went berserk following the ‘murder’ of a student leader Anil Tiwari on Monday night. They were demanding registration of a murder case against police inspector Satyapal Singh, who crushed Tiwari to death.
The police resorted to firing to control the rampaging mob,which not only ransacked the police station but also badly beat up cops. While several UPSRTC buses and private vehicles were also set ablaze, train services were also disrupted. In view of the tense situation, the shopkeepers also downed the shutters.
SP Banda Vijay Shankar Singh, who rushed to Atarra on Tuesday, was also manhandled. The mob also pelted stones at the police team. Amid mounting tension the SP placed the inspector under suspension and ordered for registration of murder case against him. According to information reaching here, the inspector, who was driving a Qualis late Monday night, hit a motorcycle driven by Anil Tiwari and Bablu Tiwari. Anil Tiwari, who was also Samajwadi Party leader, died on the spot. Bablu has been hospitalised.
