Amidst a string of bomb blasts in the restive Northeast, India on Wednesday unfurled its military might and cultural diversity at the annual Republic Day parade at the historic Rajpath in New Delhi under tight security as tsunami catastrophe cast its shadow on celebrations in Tamil Nadu and Andaman and Nicobar islands.

Armymen allegedly shot dead 10 villagers in Assam mistaking some of them for militants, as militants set off several bombs during Republic Day celebrations in the region.
In the Northeast, soldiers fired on a crowd of about 5,000 people after they attacked the troops with knives, sticks and stones in the village of Hajo on the outskirts of Guwahati, the region's main city.
Troops had gone there to hunt for militants believed to be hiding there.
