Whether it’s regarding L.K. Advani or Ajay Maken, those smses can be really irritating, can’t they? You’ve already started to grumble and complain, and the next step you’re thinking of taking is legal or constitutional or using something that protects the sacred privacy of the individual.
It turns out that many of you, sensitive souls who know when people should turn things on and turn things off, went to the Election Commission and whined about those intrusive smses. It also turns out that, as the EC itself put it, it can do bollocks about stopping these messages. And here I must agree with the honourable buckpassers. After all, didn’t God give us the silent mode on the mobile phone and the delete button? Or is that too much an effort and trauma on the part of the post-modern mobile-user?
Remember the times when television used to be blamed for everything and anything? Your son flunks in his exam. It’s TV to blame. Your wife has run off with the driver. All that TV-watching had to result in that kind of thing. Well, move over idiot box, the irritating sms is here.
But I also suspect that there is something against the ‘technological smell’ to the mobile that makes every sensitive soul so irritated about mobile spam. If you keep getting a phone call that’s a ‘wrong number’, you shout back after losing your patience at the voice on the other end, not at the telephone company. True, the possibility of you smsing back some sort of gaali to Advani, Maken or the authorities advertising discounts sales is very low. But surely you can smell spoilt people if they don’t mute their phones, delete those junk smses later and keep whining about infringement of privacy?
