On Tuesday evening, Singh had lost his cool when a group of journalists asked him pointed questions on the corruption allegations against him.

“Don’t you people have any other work do? Shut your cameras or else I will break them,” Singh had said after a public meeting in Ani in Kullu district.

“I am sorry. I did not mean to offend anyone,” Singh said at a media conference in Shimla on Wednesday.

“During the tour, suddenly two cameramen came to me and started questioning me. I was busy talking to people and suddenly there was a mike in front of my face,” he said, explaining the sequence of events.

“I respect the media, they are doing their job. I strongly deny the allegations leveled against me,” he said on Wednesday.

Clearing the air on Ispat scam, Singh said he had no knowledge when the company was closed and when their offices were raided. “It is wrong to link me to Ispat. I have only met its owner once.”

In Delhi, the Congress also apologised for Singh’s outburst. “If anyone is hurt, we apologise,” party spokesperson Sandeep Dikshit said.

Terming Singh’s remarks “unfortunate”, Dikshit said, “Sometimes, in the midst of an election campaign such things happen.”
