Q: We plan to drive around Gujarat this December. Starting from Mount Abu in Rajasthan, we want to cover as many places as we can. There is no time constraint. Guide me on suitable budget hotels in Gujarat? Are highway motels a good option?

If you plan to start from Mt Abu, take the direct route to Ahmedabad via Palanpur. You can stay in Ahmedabad for a day or two. A number of good hotels are available at in the Ashram Road area between Rs 1,000-2,000 a night.
You can start from Ahmedabad to Kutch via the Halvad-Dhangadhra highway. Kutch is a beautiful place to visit with lots of interesting places in the vicinity – Dholavira, Anjar, Bhuj, Mandvi, Mata no Madh and Narayan Sarovar.
Here, you can stay in hotels, where the price range is Rs 1,000-2,000 a night. Avoid out-of-town motels as they are a good option only for meals and not for an extended stay.
