VISUALLY challenged students appearing for board exams, conducted by the MP Board of Secondary Education, will get one hour extra time to write paper even if they take an assistance of a writer.
Students with other handicaps in upper parts of body, including cerebral palsy, will also get one hour extra time if they write papers without any help.
A notification by the board has made it clear that no extra time will be allowed to them in case they use writers. The board came out with the notification on extra time for handicapped candidates after the Bhopal district unit of the National Association for the Blind submitted a memorandum to the board.
Association secretary Uday Hatwalney, who met board secretary D D Agrawal, pointed out to him that the notifications in previous years were confusing and owing to that the visually handicapped students could not often utilise the facility provided by the board owing to the miscommunication.
After the meeting and the memorandum, the board came out with the clear directive that the visually handicapped students – even if they took assistance of writers – would get extra time of 20 minutes per hour (one hour for three hour duration exam).
