Vocational education in the state has been upgraded to meet industry demands.
The Directorate of Vocational Education and Training (DVET), which provides skilled manpower to industries, has upgraded their engineering design syllabus.
Since one year about 500 teachers from the 400 Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) have been trained in new design software.
ITIs have over 1.25 lakh students in the state and they train students in 89 trades. These institutes cater to school and college dropouts.
“The industry is demanding greater expertise and this design software will prepare students for the challenges,” said I.R Bhilegaonkar of DVET.
The software, which is used to conceptualise design, will benefit 8,000 students studying trades related to engineering design.
PTC, a global software solution company, has provided the training and software to DVET.
PTC has also provided similar training to 8,300 teachers at school level so that children between 13 to 16 years can understand design concepts.
