Volvo, A/C buses to ply between tourist locales

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard was signed between the Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (MPSTDC) and Raj Travels here on Tuesday.

MPSTDC Managing Director Ashwani Lohani and Raj Travels chairman Lalit Seth signed the MoU. “We plan to operate Volvo buses on at least 90 per cent of the routes identified so far,’’ Ashwani Lohani told Hindustan Times. A/C buses would ply on the remaining routes, he added.

The exact number of buses to be brought in service and other modalities involved in their operation were yet to be finalised, Lohani said.

The MPSTDC plans to lay special thrust on sectors like Gwalior, Jabalpur, Indore and Bhopal. These would be gateway cities of the State.

Initially, eight routes have been selected on which Volvo buses will operate. These are Jabalpur-Bhopal, Indore-Jabalpur-Indore, Jhansi-Khajuraho-Jhansi, Bhopal-Gwalior-Bhopal, Indore-Gwalior-Indore, Jabalpur-Kanha-Jabalpur, Bhopal-Sanchi-Bhopal and Indore-Ratlam-Indore.

As per the MoU, the operator will maintain and operate coaches at his own cost. He will also be fully responsible for obtaining necessary permits and permissions required for operating services.
