The Japanese Cabinet on Friday set a special session of parliament for Sept 26, when lawmakers were expected to vote for the next prime minister.

The Parliament is expected to elect nationalist Shinzo Abe to replace Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi.
On Wednesday, Abe won a landslide victory in the ruling party's presidential election.
The Cabinet approved the decision for the special session during Friday's meeting, the official of the Cabinet Office said on condition of anonymity.
