WCREU general secretary V B Singh said today that 16440 employees have voted in favour of strike. A meeting of all the zone representatives has been called under the aegis of the All India Railway Men Federation (AIRF) at New Delhi on January 15.

It would be decided at that meeting whether the railway employees would go on indefinite strike to protest against the Union Government’s alleged anti-labour policies.

Singh said railway employees had several grudges. Important amongst them are the deferring JCM forum meeting for the past eight years and U-turn by the government on setting up of sixth pay commission.

He stated that the railway employees had been served a raw deal by the union finance minister by cutting down two-days bonus. Singh maintained that even the new pension policy was very harsh on employees.
