While stern action against them is an imperative, it might also be time for the government to draw them into the mainstream and ensure that the problem does not affect law-abiding Indians any further.

This alarm must wake us up
With reference to Sujata Anandan’s article India’s very own Taliban (May 29), frequent attacks by Naxalites should serve as a wake-up call for the country. We need to tackle this growing menace. The Maoist threat has become such a problem because the Centre and states have failed to enhance the internal security system. The government must update its counter-insurgency capabilities in the fight against the scourge of red terror.

No more cheating in cricket’s test
With reference to the editorial A very limited overs game (Our Take, May 28), the Twenty20 cricket format has emerged as a serious threat to Test and ODI matches since its inception. The recent spot-fixing scandal has damaged the faith of cricket enthusiasts. Even the BCCI chief N Srinivasan is now being seen as incompetent because of his lackadaisical attitude. If found guilty, all the players arrested for fixing must be penalised. But given the fact that more people seem to be involved in this scandal, there is need for a much larger clean-up.
