Naysaying will not tackle terror, concerted effort will
Ajit Doval in Outsourcing terror (July 18) aptly analyses Pakistan's strategy of masking its nefarious activity of outsourcing terror. Such a strategy makes economic sense for the country, while allowing it the advantage of shifting the blame elsewhere. We should seriously consider Doval's suggestion about activating grassroot-level intelligence. Meanwhile, political loudmouths like Digvijaya Singh would do well to desist from muddling the situation by adding communal twist to terror tragedies.

An inquiry into investigations
This refers to the editorial For the sake of the law (Our Take, July 19).

The death of Faiz Usmani in police custody raises many questions on the way criminal investigations are conducted in India. The police should practice extreme caution while probing terror cases. It's important that only those personnel who understand the gravity of such cases are allowed to handle such sensitive cases.

Correction
Badri Raina's article It's a war of visions (July 21) incorrectly mentions the author as a D Phil candidate at the University of Oxford. He is a retired Delhi University professor and a columnist for Znet. Also, the author's original argument that "[Arun] Jaitley is most annoyed that the Supreme Court should have chosen to make 'ideological' obiter dicta rather than stick to 'pure' (sic) constitutionalism," was mistakenly reversed in the printed text. We regret the errors.
