India needs a leader who speaks to the people from his heart
With regard to Aakar Patel’s A SWOT analysis (September 14), Narendra Modi may be a controversial leader but he is the most suited to become the PM taking into consideration all his qualities. He is a farsighted leader who has won over the people by speaking from his heart. When he puts across his opinions he leaves little to speculation and is clear whether he is for or against a particular idea. India, at this point, needs a leader who has come up the ranks, worked his way to the top and knows the sufferings of the people in the lower strata of society. Almost a decade of UPA rule has ruined the country and now it is time for a change.

Narendra Modi faces an uphill task to lead the BJP to power
This refers to Modi makes history, Advani is history (September 14). Narendra Modi’s elevation as the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate puts to rest all speculation as to who would lead the party in the coming Lok Sabha elections. There is no doubt that Modi has performed exceedingly well in Gujarat during three terms as its chief minister and has put the state in the forefront of all development indices. The challenge before Modi is enormous. However, it should be remembered that even under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who was more accepted than Modi, the BJP was able to win just about 182 seats in the Lok Sabha.

Focus on measures that will change the mindset towards women
Death sentence is not a panacea (Our Take, September 14), clearly shows that we need to find a solution to all our social problems. The death sentence for the four accused in the December 16 gang rape case might act as a temporary warning to many people who take the law lightly, but it is not a long-term deterrent. We need to focus on improving basic facilities, especially in rural India. Proper education and job opportunities should be provided and the basic standard of living should be improved. We also need to undertake awareness campaigns to change the mindset of people towards women.
